Uncommon animals around the world are showcased in this ABC book. Each page features an illustration, a few facts, pronunciation, and an acorn at the bottom of the page, to show the relative size of the animal, which I thought was a clever touch. And, wow, there were more than a few animals in this book that I had never heard of – a binturong, a mara, a quoll, to name a few. Engaging realistic illustrations nevertheless have a directness which almost gives the animals personality. This is a great addition to board book collections, especially for little ones who can’t get enough of animals. I wanted to learn more about these endangered animals, protected by the Wildlife Conservation Network, which inspired the book.

Me and my son, we were fascinated about the animals featured in this book. With maybe 3 notable exceptions, I was completely unaware of those animals and I am glad to have been given the chance to discover it. It is a recommended read for pre-school curious children, passionate about animal life and life in general. It makes reading and remembering the alphabet much easy.

A simple yet very useful primer to some weird wildlife, this does just what it says it will – present an unusual animal beginning with each and every letter of the alphabet in turn. We in fact get two for many of the letters, even when it comes to the Q. So although only three of these were new to me it's got a very suitable breadth for such a young audience. Simple snatches of text tell us what kind of animal it is, where it might be found and how to pronounce it, while a ubiquitous acorn acts as a means to judge size, oddly enough... it's going to be enjoyed in many a school setting. And it's a charity fund-raiser, too.
