We both loved this book and the great illustrations. My 7 year old has such a fear of the dark & everything else, we both loved this book and the great illustrations. The page at the end with the different hand shadow characters was a great plus to continue the conversation and turn the dark into silly fun time. Timothy Young also visited her school and now she wants to read more of his books which is music to my ears.

Shadows on My Wall is a simple but delightful story about a child who has difficulty sleeping because the street lights cause all manner of strange shadows on his wall. At first he thinks there are monsters in his room, but soon learns that he can pretend the shadows are anything he wants them to be, including funny playmates to keep him company at night. I loved this book. The illustrations are simple and consistent--every page is the child's room with various shadows on the wall--but they hit just the right tone. Shadows CAN be scary but it's a great message to remind children that they can also be fun and funny.

The boy in the book deals with his scary shadows really well by making them fun things instead of scary ones. Also, at the end it has some really fun shadow puppets you can make, like a pig and a bird and a dog."
